Great to meet you guys tonight, and talk about my favorite subject -- food.
Some things to think about regarding this movie and how you can help:
In the 1970s, the top five beef packers controlled about 25% of the market. Today, the top four control more than 80% of the market.
How can you help? Buy from independent growers who refuse to do business with large businesses.
In the 1970s, there were thousands of slaughterhouses producing the majority of beef sold. Today, we have only 13.
How can you help? Again, your independent growers may have independent arbitroirs that will do their slaughtering.
The average chicken farmer invests over $500,000 and makes only $18,000 a year.
What can you do about it? Don't buy any Tyson chicken products. Watch the film and you'll understand. They're the devil. It's sickening.
32,000 hogs a day are killed in Smithfield Hog Processing Plant in Tar Heel, N.C, which is the largest slaughterhouse in the world. And you should see how these pigs are treated there.
Smithfield. Hmmm, sounds familiar to me.
Who does advertisements for Smithfield? Let me give you a hint. Her name rhymes with "Paula Deen."
She's an irresponsible phony who should not only NOT be on television passing along recipes that will eventually kill you, she shouldn't be glamorized by anyone. She's Tammie Faye Baker all over again, shilling inferior pork products. Her hair and make up are as real as her food.
The SB63 Consumer Right to Know measure that required that all food derived from cloned animals be labeled that way ACTUALLY PASSED the California state legislature before being vetoed in 2007 by Governor Schwarzenegger, who said that he couldn’t sign a bill that pre-empted federal law.
How can you help? This one is easy. Once he's no longer the GOV'NA - don't go to see any more of his insipid movies. He's an attention whore and you know the minute he's out of office, he's going to go right back to Hollywood so he can be in the limelight again. He's made an absolute mess of our state.
Schwarzenegger, like Paula Deen, is an asshole. We don't need any more power behind the meat machine than we have already. It's time we take control of our food.
